One of the worlds most famous ancient archaeological sites, the Acropolis was built during the Bronze age, 2200 to 1200 BC, 500 feet above sea level on the Attica Plateau. With breathtaking views, the Acropolis served as a home to kings, a citadel, a mythical home of the gods, and a religious center since dinosaurs roamed the earth. It has withstood epic attacks, immense earthquakes, and more for centuries. A modern marvel, it’s a designated UNESCO World Heritage Site and home to the star attraction and the Acropolis centerpiece, the Parthenon. Completed in the 5th century BC, it is regarded as the masterpiece of the Doric order of architecture. Other temples on the Acropolis include Athena and Athena Nike. All reflect the grandeur of ancient Athens.

The nearby Acropolis Museum lies over the ruins that were part of the Roman and early Byzantine Athens. Discover the home of the significant historical artifacts found on the rock and surrounding slopes of the Acropolis.

From there, you will be chauffeured to the iconic Temple of Olympian Zeus, a sanctuary set in the bustling city center. Aptly named after “Olympian” Zeus, head of the Olympian gods, it took almost 700 years to complete and boasts the most exemplary Corinthian order architecture.

Not to be missed, we’ll drive to Syntagma Square to watch the Changing of the Guard Ceremony at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. From there, we’ll head to Plaka and the market at the foothills of the Acropolis to enjoy walking along quaint cobblestone streets lined with small shops, sidewalk cafes, and the ancient Themistoclean Wall.

Next, we’ll continue to Panathenaic Stadium, the only stadium in the world originally built entirely of marble and the host of the first modern Olympics. We’ll complete the experience with the most breathtaking views of Athens on Lycabettus Hill, the highest point in Athens and stop at the National Library of Athens to see its Pentelic marble, Doric columns, and Renaissance-style twin staircase, and statues. Part of a three-building complex known as the Athenian Trilogy: The Library, The University of Athens, and the Academy, they do not disappoint.
